Accessibility
Everyone should be able to use this website - including visitors who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, or other assistive technology. We work to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA.
What is in place
- Full keyboard navigation, including the menus - with a skip-to-content link and a clearly visible focus indicator
- Text and background colours checked against WCAG AA contrast standards
- Descriptive text alternatives for images; decorative images are hidden from screen readers
- A consistent heading structure and page landmarks for assistive technology
- Status messages (form results, search counts) announced to screen readers
- Animations disabled for visitors whose device requests reduced motion
- Translation into seven languages via the language menu at the top of every page
- Third-party content (videos, maps, calendars) loads only on request, with clearly labelled buttons
Known limitations
- Once loaded, the YouTube player and Google maps/calendars are third-party software - their internal controls are outside our control, though YouTube's own player does support keyboard use and captions
- Translations are machine-generated by Google Translate and may contain errors; the English pages are the authoritative version
- Some linked publications (such as magazine PDFs) are produced by other organisations and may not be fully accessible
How we test
Every page is checked with automated accessibility tooling (axe-core, against WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules) and tested by hand with keyboard-only navigation. The last full audit was in August 2026, and testing is repeated as the site changes.
